Enon UMC Mitten Tree rainbow gloves with heart while snowing in winter

If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? — James 2:16 (NIV)

The Mitten Tree is an outreach ministry of Enon UMC. During the annual Christmas-time Hanging of the Greens, an empty Christmas tree is placed in the Lobby at the Broadway entrance. All December long, parishioners decorate the tree with donated mittens, scarves, and hats. Early in January, we deliver these donations to Enon Elementary and Indian Valley students to help keep them warm during the coldest months.

In January 2019, 13 thirteen pairs of gloves, 18 hats, and 7 scarves were delivered to Enon Primary. Also, 15 pairs of gloves, 17 hats, and 4 were delivered to Indian Valley. Many hats and scarves were hand crocheted or knitted by our talented church members who were willing to share their gifts of love with our local students.
