Native American Ministries Sunday

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. — 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV)

Enon UMC Native American Ministries Sunday

In The United Methodist Church, Native American Sunday is one of six Special Sundays with offerings. On the third Sunday in Easter, our designated gifts do two things. First, they directly support Native American congregations that minister authentically within their communities. Second, they provide scholarships for Native American seminary students.

This Special Sunday originated at the 1988 General Conference and has been celebrated since 1989. Our offerings help develop and strengthen Native American ministries in the Annual Conferences as well as Native American rural, urban, and reservation ministries.

Native American Ministries Sunday celebrates and supports the 157 Native American United Methodist churches and over 20,000 Native Americans who are part of our denomination. Did you know that more than 20,000 Native American people are part of The United Methodist Church? Through the gifts we share this Special Sunday, United Methodist Native American seminary students and congregations are empowered to develop new ministries to honor creative expression of Native Americans’ culture. They are equipped to form new ministry partnerships and coalitions which encourage community reconciliation and restoration.
